ADUscale is building a team that defends California homeowners against contractor failure, permit traps, and bad construction financing. We hire independent thinkers — usually with a construction or real-estate background — who can tell a homeowner don’t build when that is the right answer. We work fully remote across California. We work on the build side, so the people we hire have to be comfortable always putting the homeowner's interests first.

The profile

What we look for

Independent thinkers Comfortable saying we don’t recommend this builder even when it loses a deal. Comfortable disagreeing with the founder when the data is on your side.
Construction or real-estate background General contractor experience, residential project management, real estate brokerage, mortgage lending, or building inspection. Adjacent fields considered when the work history shows you can read a contract and a set of plans.
California-based Most roles. Occasional site visits in Los Angeles, San Diego, or the Bay Area.
Fluency with field data Comfort working with inspection records, contract reviews, permit data, and basic financial models. You don’t need to be a developer or analyst, but you shouldn’t be allergic to numbers.
Honest with numbers We publish ranges, cite sources, and say when we don’t know. If your previous employers asked you to round in a friendlier direction, this is not the place. The work is mostly written — reports, contract reviews, risk registers, and homeowner-facing memos. If you can’t write a clear paragraph, the rest of the skill stack doesn’t save you.

Fully remote across California. Most of the work is remote. Occasional site visits in LA, San Diego, or the Bay Area for projects that warrant them.

Open roles

We don’t have open roles right now, but we hire two to three times per year. The roles that open most often sit at the intersection of homeowner advocacy, construction operations, and California real-estate law: project leads, contractor verification analysts, financing operations, and a writer or two who can turn a permit file into a memo a homeowner can act on.

How we hire

Written application. One paragraph about why ADUscale, plus one work sample (a report you wrote, a contract you redlined, a project you ran).

30-minute call with the founder. Straightforward conversation about your background and what you want to work on.

Paid trial project. Four to eight hours of paid work on a real, scoped task. No hypotheticals.

Reference checks. We call the people you worked with, not just the ones you listed.
